General Description
Advantage StretchWrap is a kraft paper, made of responsibly sourced materials and produced in our Swedish paper mill. It is the game changing solution in the market that can replace the plastic stretch film for wrapping pallets. Advantage StretchWrap is a fully recyclable paper product with no coating. Initially used to wrap around mattresses’ inner springs, Mondi’s extensive R&D has increased the paper’s strength and stretchability and reduced the grammage so that it can wrap homogenous pallets in semi-automatic or automatic paper wrapping machines – an expertise of 20 years in wrapping papers made this innovation a reality.
The paper has an outstanding stretch and high-tensile strength, even in the low grammage of 70 gsm, making it a reliable lightweight wrapping solution for products transported on pallets. It has been tested and passed the compression holding force test according to EUMOS standard, which means that the pallets can be safely moved and transported.
Sustainability Impact
Currently a multi-layer difficult-to-recycle plastic film is used for pallet wrapping, which makes the choice of switching to a responsibly sourced renewable material the new market standard. Strong recycling rates in Europe for fibre-based packaging and availability of paper waste streams ensure that the paper can be recycled at the end of its life, contributing to a circular economy.
An industry first, Advantage StretchWrap is created at Mondi’s energy efficient paper mill and has the potential to replace more than 10,000 tonnes of plastic for every 1% of EU pallets that transition from plastic to this paper-based wrapping solution. It has 62% lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions when compared to virgin plastic stretch film, and 49% lower GHG emissions when compared to plastic stretch film made with 50% recycled content.
It is used for wrapping homogeneous filled pallets with flat sides and no sharp corners. For example, pallets packed with PET water bottle multipacks, PET soda bottle multipacks, baby food jars, food jars, boxed goods, empty paper bags or packed in boxes.
